Witte and Whimsy: The Great Parchment Book

Congratulations to everyone who’s done with finals, and to our most recent graduates!  EMS blog posts will resume in September.

Until then, have a wonderful summer, and check out this website for The Great Parchment Book.  It’s a survey of Irish lands held by the City of London, dated 1639.  The pages are badly crumpled and shrunken due to fire damage, but conservators have been able to read them by using digital techniques of “virtual stretching” to flatten the sheets . . . pretty amazing!
