Open Access Opportunities for Credit, Tenure, and Promotion

When: October 15 | 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Where: Claremont Colleges Library, Founders Room

What: Discussion, wine and treats with scholars from UW and USC

Come to the Claremont Colleges Library for what is sure to be a lively debate on Open Access Opportunities for Credit, Tenure, and Promotion. Learn how scholars, researchers, tenure committees, policy makers, and funders are embracing broader and more diverse evaluation criteria and new forms of authorship and publishing.

Dr. Stephen Roberts, Associate Professor in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, will discuss open scholarship in the context of practical considerations, altmetrics, and opportunities. This will include of an overview of how our research group uses available tools as well as perspectives on the promotion process. Dr. Roberts’ lab webpage and research.

Dr. Tara McPherson, Associate Professor of Critical Studies at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, will speak about the development of new tools and paradigms for digital publishing, learning, and authorship in the context of her research in the digital humanities, early software histories, gender, and race.

Maria Savova, the Claremont Colleges Library Director of Information Resources and Systems will present examples of business models that allow for prestigious publications to become available under Open Access giving evidence to the opportunities provided by the rapid evolution in scholarly communication.
